Withings 'beta testing new Health Mate app'

The French tech company Withings is reportedly looking for Apple users to take part in beta tests of upcoming versions of its Health Mate app.

According to a report in Gadgets and Wearables, the company has already conducted Android beta tests of the new version of the app.

The Health Mate app is central to Withings range of health-based devices. The app acts as a repository for a number of data streams including sleep, weight, blood oxygen and heart rate.

According to Gadgets and Wearables, installing the Beta software won’t give consumers any particular benefit beyond getting an early preview into its functionality.

The beta tests come as Withings recently announced the US availability of its ScanWatch Horizon, a smartwatch that looks like luxury diver watch. The stainless steel watch, which features an ECG and can monitor heart rate, breathing disturbances, blood oxygen levels, sleep, and physical activity, was released on to the US market in the middle of last month.

The company is still awaiting US government approval before it can sell its BodyScan bathroom scales in the US. The BodyScan’s electrical components must first meet the approval of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
