UL releases new edition of home electronics standard

Testing and certification company UL has published an update to its standard for household and electrical appliances.

It is the fourth edition of the standard, UL 60335-2-40, and provides particular requirements for electrical heat pumps, air-conditioners and dehumidifiers.

The fourth edition is intended for use in conjunction with the sixth edition of UL 60335-1, the Standard for Safety of Household and Similar Appliances, Part 1: General Requirements, dated October 31, 2016.

Some changes for the new edition of UL 60335-2-40 include in the areas of leakage current and electric strength at operating temperature and a new annex on refrigerant detection systems for flammable refrigerants.

The fourth edition of UL 60335-2-40 is scheduled for publication in November from UL Standards & Engagement, the company said.
