Samsung’s QLED range certified for CO2 reduction

The Carbon Trust has certified Samsung’s range of QLED televisions for reduced CO2 emissions, the electronics giant said.

Samsung said that six models of its 2023 Neo QLED lineup have achieved the “Reducing CO2” certification from the Carbon Trust, a global climate consultancy founded by the UK government.

The certification is awarded to products that have shown a stepped reduction in CO2 emissions year on year.

The Carbon Trust calculates its carbon footprint certification by evaluating the amount of greenhouse gases generated throughout a product’s entire lifecycle, including production and disposal. The certification does not take CO2 offsets into consideration.

The 2023 Neo QLED models were granted the certification after Samsung said it had made strides to reduce the products’ weight and power consumption in comparison to earlier models. The six certified models include three Neo QLED 8K and three Neo QLED 4K screens.

Samsung said it expects to earn carbon footprint certification for more than 20 models this year across its latest lineup of QLED, Crystal UHD and OLED TVs, as well as monitors and signage products.

“It’s rewarding to see Samsung’s sustainability mission recognized by a trusted organization, as we remain committed to creating products with the future of our planet top of mind,” said Seokwoo Yong, executive vice president and deputy head of visual display business at Samsung. “As the world’s largest TV manufacturer, we recognize our responsibility to lead by example and will continue to leverage technology to drive positive change.”
