LG certified by TÜV to test smart home software

LG has been accredited by the certification company TÜV Rheinland to test the safety of smart home tech software.

The Korean electronics giant said its software center in South Korea had been officially designated a TÜV Rheinland Appointed Laboratory for the purpose of evaluating the functional safety of home appliance software.

LG said it is the first company to have a dedicated testing lab receive an accreditation from TÜV Rheinland for this particular testing domain. LG will evaluate the architecture of software applied to its smart home appliances using tests conducted in accordance with relevant international standards (IEC 60730-1 and IEC 60335-1).

LG said that bringing the testing in-house will help the company to reduce the time to market of its smart appliance products.

This is not the first time LG’s software center has received TÜV accreditation. In June 2022, the center was designated a TÜV Rheinland Appointed Laboratory for automotive software functional safety evaluations.

The center has also been accredited by the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS) to assess autonomous vehicle software and measure the quality of electric and electronic products.

"We will continue to pursue a variety of activities and initiatives to enhance software quality and boost public confidence, which will ultimately help strengthen the software competitiveness of LG's products and services," said Park In-sung, head of LG’s software center.
