UL opens new lab facilities in China and UK

Testing and certification multinational UL Solutions has expanded its global footprint with the development of new lab facilities in China and the UK.

In China, UL has opened a new retail and consumer products laboratory in Shenzhen, a relocation from UL’s previous facility in the area.

The new Shenzhen retail and consumer products laboratory features enhanced testing capabilities and expanded services for Chinese manufacturers of hardline and softline consumer products, footwear, toys, and health and beauty products.

“Today begins  an exciting new chapter for our business in China as we commemorate the opening of our new state-of-the-art UL Solutions Shenzhen Retail and Consumer Products Laboratory,” said Jennifer Scanlon, president and CEO of UL Solutions.

At the same time as the Shenzhen opening, the company announced the debut of its expanded electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and wireless testing laboratory in Basingstoke, England.

The lab expansion features new testing facilities specifically for the lighting and appliance industries.

According to the company, the expansion means the campus in Basingstoke is now one of the most extensive commercial EMC and wireless test laboratories in the UK.

Already one of the largest independent specific absorption rate (SAR) testing labs in Europe, the Basingstoke facility expansion sees the addition of a new chamber that offers the ability to make measurements from 30MHz to 18GHz without changing device or product configuration; expanded safety testing for lighting and appliance products; and expanded automation.

“Balancing EMC and wireless technology innovation and speed-to-market with operational and product safety are crucial to customer success in a dynamic and demanding market,” said Phil Davies, general manager in Europe for the consumer, medical and information technology group at UL Solutions.

“By prioritizing our EMC and wireless investments to test a myriad of devices and equipment, we are advancing our capabilities with the fast pace of technological innovation—helping wireless technology manufacturers and their suppliers increase the interconnectivity of their products––safely and securely.”
