UL launches new UK lighting testing lab

UL Solutions has opened the doors of its new UK lighting and appliance safety testing lab.

At a recent open day event for appliance and lighting manufacturers and distributors, Jordan Bucko, operations manager with the appliances, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and lighting team at the Basingstoke facility, said: “We have aimed to be as flexible as possible to accommodate a multitude of end products and components as the market requires.

“The space has been fully equipped and we will have the capabilities for high volume requirements.”

The 175-square-meter lab uses state-of-the-art equipment and a team of engineers and technicians for electrical safety, environmental, materials, endurance and wireless electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing for lighting and appliances.

Products that can be tested and certified at the lab include luminaires; LED modules; and household appliances.

According to UL, the lab provides testing and certification to IEC and North American standards for UK businesses exporting and global businesses importing products to the UK. The facility can also support the testing and development of connected products, UL said.
