UL hosts China summit on Matter 1.0 certification

A global summit on the certification of the new Matter 1.0 standard for IoT smart home devices took place recently in China hosted by UL Solutions and Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA).

Certification company UL and CSA, as well Thread Group met with manufacturers of smart home devices at the event at SongShan Lake in Dongguan.

Matter 1.0 was released last October by CSA, an international organization composed of 550 tech companies including Apple, Amazon and Google. The standard allows interoperability between Matter-certified devices and has been embraced by tech developers as a heralding a new era in connectivity.

At the meeting, the team from UL Solutions introduced the basic policy and test points of Matter certification and set up a Matter test environment on-site to demonstrate the test situation of the specified project.

UL Solutions is one of a number of major certification companies that offer testing and certification services for the new standard, including at its SongShan Lake IoT lab.

Barry Yu, VP and GM, Consumer, Medical and Information Technologies, UL Solutions, said: “We've seen a lot of different protocols before, but Matter is precious, as it is a reliable, secure and consensual protocol we can access in the industry.”

"UL Solutions has been actively involved in related testing activities since early 2020 and has been in close cooperation with CSA,” Yu added.
