Following on from Honor, Apple and other smartphone makers, Samsung is reportedly developing a generative AI virtual assistance tool that will be embedded into the Galaxy S24 launching next year.

Known as Samsung Gauss, it will be an on-device large language model (LLM) made up of three parts: Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code and Samsung Gauss Image.

According to a report in TechRadar, the AI tool is named after famous German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss.

Samsung said the tool will reflect Samsung’s overall vision “to draw from all the phenomena and knowledge in the world in order to harness the power of AI to improve the lives of consumers everywhere.”

According to TechRadar, Samsung Gauss appears to be a proprietary technology, meaning it isn’t tied to Qualcomm’s newly announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which Honor’s new AI capabilities rely on.

This means that Samsung Gauss features may go beyond the capabilities of upcoming Samsung devices running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
