Samsung OLED displays certified as eye-friendly

Samsung’s new OLED display technology has been certified as eye-friendly by top certification companies TUV and SGS.

Global certification company TUV has awarded Samsung OLED with the 'Flicker Free' certification, while SGS recognized the technology with the Eye Care Display Certification.

"Samsung OLED has raised picture quality specifications to another level for laptops in areas of color, contrast rate, response speed and more," says Baek Ji-ho, head of strategic marketing for small and medium business at Samsung Display, the Samsung offshoot that developed the OLED technology. "The two recently awarded global eye-friendly display certifications prove OLED technology offers the best performing display to reduce the impact on consumers' vision."

According to Samsung Display, the global 'Flicker Free' certification was received following TUV testing of Samsung Display's OLED for laptops at different refresh rates between 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz.

Display flickering occurs when a TV or monitor constantly blinks due to inconsistent screen brightness. While it is difficult to identify through the naked eye, constant exposure can often cause headaches, red eyes and a negative impact on overall vision.

SGS’ Eye Care Display Certification was granted to the technology for its significantly low emission of 'harmful blue light'. Reducing blue light helps cut eye fatigue, dry eye syndrome and poor sleeping habits.

According to the SGS tests, Samsung OLED emits one-third less harmful blue light compared to LCD displays. The certification testing also showed that harmful blue light reduced by 78 percent in 'Dark Mode', which darkens background lights.
