Samsung like-new program extended to S23 series

Samsung has announced that it is now making available renovated Galaxy S23 series smartphones as part of its Certified Re-Newed program.

The Certified Re-Newed program allows customers to purchase second-hand S23 smartphones that are as good as new, says Samsung.

The “like-new phone experience” is supported by “an extensive 147 point inspection, testing, and repurposed genuine parts, all assembled by Samsung technicians,” said Samsung.

The phones will be available on the North American market and come with the same year-long warranty offered on new Galaxy smartphones, as well as a brand-new battery, but cost considerably less than a brand new version of the same model.

For example, Galaxy S23 Ultra Certified Re-Newed will be available in Phantom Black and Phantom Green with 256GB of storage, starting at $919 – nearly $400 less than a new phone.

The addition of the S23 series to the Re-Newed program was announced to coincide with Earth Day, with Samsung highlighting the other sustainable credentials of the Galaxy S23 lineup, which incorporate more recycled materials than any previous Galaxy smartphone.

Samsung Certified Re-Newed already features a number of other Samsung products including the Galaxy S22 series starting at $529 and Galaxy S21 series starting at $449. Users can also receive a minimum of $300 guaranteed value towards the purchase of any Certified Re-Newed smartphone when they trade in qualifying smartphones, Samsung noted.

The Certified Re-Newed is part of broader push by smartphone makers to make their devices more sustainable after pressure from activists and governments to cut down on e-waste and improve smartphone repairability.
