Photonics trade show to open in Munich

Laser World of Photonics, the world’s leading photonics trade fair, will take place this week in Munich with key consumer electronics testing companies represented at the event.

The trade show will be held at the Munich exhibition grounds from June 27 to 30, attracting more than 1,300 exhibitors.

Among the exhibitors will be test equipment maker Rohde & Schwarz which will shares a booth with its Zurich Instruments subsidiary to present their advanced test and measurement solutions for photonics technology.

Photonics is the science and technology of light and includes laser.

Common uses of laser technology in consumer electronics include electronic storage media such as Blu-ray discs and barcode readers.

Rohde & Schwarz will use the trade show to showcase its phase noise analyzers and oscilloscopes. Phase noise analyzers are essential for many photonics applications, such as laser and optical source analysis, optical frequency synthesis, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and quantum optics.

Oscilloscopes, meanwhile, are versatile electronic test instruments extensively used in photonics for signal analysis, waveform visualization and measurements in the time domain, the company said

Speaking about the trade show, which will take place alongside the World of Photonics Congress and World of Quantum and automatica trade show, exhibition director Anke Odouli noted that “there is hardly an industry that can now do without light as a tool in its innovations.”

Christian Dille, global market segment manager for research and universities at Rohde & Schwarz, said: “The future of photonics is heading toward exciting frontiers, with advancements in quantum photonics, integrated photonics and biophotonics.”
