Pfeiffer Vacuum hosts leak testing webinar

Vacuum technology supplier Pfeiffer Vacuum has made available for viewing a recent webinar on the leak testing of components inside smartphones, tablets and wearables.

Pfeiffer Vacuum, which makes leak detection products for consumer electronics, has made the webinar available to view on their website.

Covering the leak testing of hermetically sealed objects like encapsulated electronics or batteries, the webinar was hosted by Pfeiffer Vacuum leak detection expert Dr Rudolf Konwitschny and application manager Jonas Klös.

Subjects covered in the webinar include fine leak tests and gross leak tests, with a focus on helium fine leak tests, as well as a case study of a sensor test.

The components contained in smartphones, tablets and wearables must be leak tested to prevent the leakage of battery electrolyte and to protect against water ingress. Operators frequently face significant difficulties when testing hermetically sealed products like encapsulated electronics or batteries, often as a result of inconsistent test results and differences between test results that are displayed and actual leak rates.

In the webinar, Konwitschny and Klös explain the parameters which have an influence on the test result, show simulations of tests and compare the simulations with test recipes defined in relevant regulations and real experiments.

They also discuss tightness testing for smartphone and wearables’ components such as microphones, speakers, ePTFE membranes or barometric vents, and batteries. To watch the webinar follow this link.
