New Pixel models ‘to feature changes to display’

Google’s newest generation of Pixel phones are reportedly likely to feature major changes in the display design, resolution and brightness.

Google is expected to announce the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro later in 2023. According to a leak reported in Android Authority, the two phones will feature some significant differences from their predecessor models.

The Pixel 8, for example, is rumored to have a smaller display than the Pixel 7 – dropping from 6.3 inches display to 6.17 inches.

The display is also expected to have more rounded corners, with Google "more than doubling the corner radius" of the display for all four corners.

The Pixel 8 Pro will also feature more rounded corners and will reduce its display size by a fraction smaller than its predecessor – going from a 6.71-inch display to 6.7 inches.

The new model will also dispense with the curved glass seen on the Pixel Pro 7, returning to flatter glass display.

While the Pixel 8 will retain the same 2,400 x 1,080 resolution as the Pixel 7, the Pixel 8 Pro’s resolution will drop to 2,992 x 1,344 compared to 3,120 x 1,440 on the Pixel 7 Pro.

If the leaker is to be believed, both new models will enjoy an increase in peak brightness to 1,400 nits on the Pixel 8 (up from 1,000 nits) and to 1,600 nits on the Pixel 8 Pro (also up from 1,000 nits). The Pixel 8 Pro is also likely to see an upgrade in its variable refresh rate.
