New GRAS tester ‘a first for microphone industry’

Audio testing company GRAS Sound & Vibration has launched a new microphone technology aimed at increasing efficiency and test accuracy of consumer audio devices.

The new GRAS EQset™ Microphone technology offers fixed sensitivity and a flat response curve across all frequencies in every EQset-enabled microphone.

GRAS claimed the device will provide users with an equalized microphone “all set and ready to go out of the box”, which the company claimed is “a first for the microphone industry.”

Being able to provide a consistent EQset fixed sensitivity and flat curve reduces measurement uncertainty and simplifies microphone setup, monitoring, replacement, and corrections.

“This means everything can happen quickly and easily without any individual microphone adjustments or corrections,” GRAS said in a release to accompany the product launch.

The company also claimed that the device will “all but eliminates the inherent risk of false passes on production lines or correction error for frequencies outside the calibrated frequency in R&D,” which it noted as common issues with other microphones used in audio testing.

Rémi Guastavino, director of product management at GRAS, said: “By introducing EQset technology, we are proving our commitment to constantly seek new, cost-efficient and highly accurate testing solutions across the world. Innovation is at our heart and EQset is only our latest step—the market can expect more to come from GRAS in the near future.”
