Matter standard alliance appoints new COO

The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), the tech industry consortium behind the Matter interoperability standard, has appointed Michelle Mindala-Freeman to the role of Chief Operating Officer.

Mindala-Freeman joined the CSA in 2021 as head of marketing and oversaw the rebranding of the organization, whose members including tech industry giants like Amazon, Samsung and Apple. She was promoted to CSA executive vice president in 2023.

“I joined the Alliance three years ago committed to making a difference in an organization and an industry,” said Mindala-Freeman. “I’m honored to have been able to do both, supporting the growth and success of the Alliance and our members. Looking ahead, my dedication remains steadfast in serving our team and our members, while channeling my strengths and energy to continually evolving and improving what we do and how we positively impact the IoT.”

CSA is an international community of more than 700 technology companies working to create open standards for consumer IoT such as smart home devices. It is best known for launching Matter 1.0 and later iterations of the standard, which allows smart home devices to be interoperable regardless of the brand.
