LG first to gain VESA variable refresh rate standard

Two LG display monitors are the first to be certified with the Video Electronics Standards Association’s (VESA) new Adaptive Sync Display standard for gaming displays.

The standard was launched early last month to certify variable refresh rate (VRR) displays for judder, dropped frames, and flicker.

VESA, a global standards agency for computer displays, said the new certification program would make it easier for consumers to choose a suitable VRR display.

Two LG UltraGear models, the 27GP950 and 27GP850 gaming monitors, have now been certified with Adaptive Sync.

The certification means that both monitors will be able to market themselves with the VESA AdaptiveSync logo. The logo will feature the maximum refresh rate supported by the display.

In order to gain the certification the monitors were put through a testing process that involved more than 50 different criteria - including refresh rates, screen flicker, latency and gray to gray response times. The standard requires displays to have a minimum refresh rate of up to 60Hz and a maximum of at least 144Hz.

The AdaptiveSync standard joins other VESA standards, including Displayport, display mount, and the DisplayHDR certifications.
