Intertek grows AI certification services

Testing services company Intertek has expanded its auditing and certification services to cover new AI standards.

The company said its business assurance division will now offer auditing and certification services to the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) standard, enhancing ethical and responsible AI practices within organisations.

ISO/IEC 42001 standard was released in December last year after ISO and IEC recognised the need for responsible management of AI.

The world's first AI standard, ISO/IEC 42001 outlines requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an AIMS within an organisation. This framework is tailored for entities involved in delivering or utilising AI-based products or services, ensuring the responsible development and application of AI systems.

Intertek said that the new standard builds on Intertek’s global Total Sustainability Assurance (TSA) programme, “providing its clients with an enhanced solution that will allow them to use AI in ways which are safer and more secure.”

"We are pleased to extend our services in this ground-breaking standard,” said Calin Moldovean, President, Intertek Business Assurance, Food Services, and Assuris. "By offering certification services for AIMS, we enable organisations to proactively address the unique challenges associated with AI implementation, fostering trust and credibility among customers, partners, and regulators."

"Intertek's commitment to advancing ethical and responsible AI practices within organisations is exemplified through our latest service expansion,” said Sofia Liebon, Global Program Manager, Intertek IT & Data Security. "By partnering with Intertek, organisations can not only achieve certification but also demonstrate their dedication to sustainability and responsible business practices in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.”
