Margis, who is director of Conformity Assessment Programs at UL, will also serve as chair of the IEC Conformity Assessment Board (CAB).

Margis was elected to the IEC roles late last month at the IEC’s general meeting and will serve for three years.

He will serve alongside three other IEC current vice-presidents as well as IEC president Jo Cops, who became president in January this year.

This current appointment is not Margis’ first involvement with the IEC. He has served as the chair of the IEC’s System for Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (IECEE), known colloquially as the CB Scheme, since 2022 and previously served as IECEE vice chair.

He has worked for UL Solutions for more than 30 years, where he has served in numerous capacities related to global market access initiatives. He will continue his work at UL Solutions throughout his IEC tenure, UL Solutions reported.

“I am truly honored to have been elected to the position of IEC vice president and chair of the IEC Conformity Assessment Board,” said Margis. “Through this work with a balanced set of stakeholders from around the world, the conformity assessment community has demonstrated how working together drives harmonization and serves to drive efficiencies in facilitating global trade.
