HEAD unveils next gen acoustic analysis software

The German tech company HEAD acoustics has announced the release of the next iteration of its well-established analysis software ACQUA.

Known as ACQUA 5.0.100, the new release improves on previous iterations of the software, which is used in sound and vibration analysis.

Among the new features are a new ‘Workplace Settings’ option, which allows the user to configure and define his local workplace, including the use of HATS (head and torso simulator), microphones, loudspeakers or radio testers.

According to HEAD, the new system also allows for a more streamlined and intuitive approach to working with ACQUA. All properties for a single hardware item can now be found in one location, for example. Assignments of equalizations, calibrations and corrections are distinctive and hardware setups are easily verifiable.

The new iteration of the software also allows for improved analysis capabilities for measuring subjectively perceived loudness, according to HEAD, which develops hardware and software for the measurement, analysis and optimization of voice and audio quality.

“The analysis possibilities have been extended by the new loudness calculation according to Recommendation ITU-T P.700,” the company said in a statement. “Thus, not just the traditional loudness rating calculations are available. The new psycho-acoustic based loudness calculation allows a much more realistic calculation of the speech loudness perceived by the user.

“Even non-LTI systems such as AGC and compression schemes can be evaluated. This provides an excellent analysis of all measures integrated by manufacturers targeting the increase of the subjectively perceived loudness without producing excessive sound pressure levels.”

Another improvement is with the perceptual-based audio quality measure MDAQS, which has been integrated into the analysis portfolio for the first time.

“MDAQS provides unique audio quality evaluation for all types of audio equipment ranging from headsets to loudspeaker arrangements,” the company said.

ACQUA 5 also addresses the fact that often more than one HATS is used in laboratories by allowing the DRP/ERP correction to be configured for each HATS individually. A variety of additional improvements are found in ACQUA 5, ranging from SMD handling to scripting possibilities up to more optimized database features, the company said.
