Photonics is the science of light waves and is the basis for the development of consumer electronics’ displays. Hamamatsu Photonics, a leading photonics research company, said the collaboration with VUB, which stands for Vrije Universiteit Brussel, “aims to establish a robust and enduring relationship focused on advancing photonics innovation.”
Hamamatsu said they will work with VUB's distinguished photonics research group, B-Phot, headed by Professor Hugo Thienpont, and will use the partnership as a way to explore new avenues for supporting companies in various stages of photonics development.
In a statement, Hamamatsu said: “Key areas of collaboration include providing support to companies in photonics feasibility studies, proof-of-concept demonstrations, prototyping, and quality control. Additionally, the partnership will explore the development of photonic modules and subsystems to enhance Hamamatsu Photonics' product portfolio.”
Marco Mayer, strategic business development manager Europe at Hamamatsu Photonics, said: "This collaboration signifies an exciting opportunity to combine VUB and PhotonHub's expertise with Hamamatsu's advanced technology to drive innovation and support the growth of our customers' businesses."
Through the partnership, Hamamatsu also hope to extend its reach to European companies through the Europe-based photonics innovation hub, PhotonHub Europe. The company said that via its collaboration with PhotonHub Europe it had introduced Pilot Lines, a new service aimed at bridging the gap between conceptualization and market-ready photonics products.
According to Hamamatsu, Pilot Lines, led by Hamamatsu Photonics and PhotonHub Europe, will facilitate the seamless transition of photonics-based technologies from early-stage development to commercialization. Pilot Lines will be launched during the upcoming Technology Days event from April 25 to June 13, across eight European cities, the company said.
