Element expands connected technologies capacity with increased footprint in Silicon Valley

Element Materials Technology (Element) has further expanded its market leading capacity in the connected technologies sector with an increased footprint in Silicon Valley. These investments are part of the more than US$300m that Element has invested since the start of 2020.

In recent months, Element has expanded one of its three laboratories in Silicon Valley to increase capacity and add regulatory testing capabilities and to help build on its leadership position in 5G testing and certification.

In 2022, Element will expand its other two laboratories in Silicon Valley to increase capacity and add testing capabilities for regulatory and carrier approvals, with a growing total footprint in the Bay Area of over 50,000ft2. This investment in new equipment and expertise ensures Element’s California customers have local access to its industry-leading 5G (FR1 + FR2) capabilities in the region.

Following the acquisitions of PCTEST and AIRCOM over the past two years, Element has built a global business which is now the leading service provider on carrier approvals in North America and Japan, regulatory testing and certification capacity, as well as 5G capabilities and expertise. The California laboratories serve a variety of verticals including connected medical, connected automotive and consumer electronics.

Rick Sluiters, EVP of Americas at Element, said, “We have placed a strong focus on our connected technology capabilities over the last two years. Our test laboratories are experienced and ready to assess 5G devices for radio transmitter and receiver communications; over the air (OTA) performance; immunity to EMC phenomena; and safety from hazards and radio frequency (RF) exposure to 5G signals (SAR). We are well-positioned to lead the connected technologies sector in North America, Europe and Asia.

“This further significant investment in Silicon Valley will ensure that our important California-based customers have even greater local access to all of our testing and regulatory services. Providing increased efficiency and in-person access are critical to grow our support of these highly technical and commercially sensitive products,” he added.

Element’s services include conformance and network acceptance services to ensure that 5G devices connect to 5G networks. When 5G testing is complete, its experienced 5G certification bodies are ready to approve 5G devices for a global regulatory market.

Element is a world leader in the testing, inspection, and certification of a diverse range of technologies from consumer electronics like smartphones, cellular devices, wearables, and simple sensors, to medical devices, autonomous vehicles, connected robots and factory devices. With 21 connected technologies laboratories in the USA, UK, Germany, China, South Korea, and Japan, Element works daily with the world’s leading technology leaders, device manufacturers and innovators to make the Internet of Things (IoT) an increasing reality.
