CSA opens battery testing lab at new German HQ

Testing and certification company CSA Group has announced the opening of a battery laboratory at its new European headquarters in Plattling, Germany.

According to CSA, the lab is equipped and accredited for testing and certification of battery cells and battery packs, and for testing and certification of assembled battery-operated hand-held power tools.

The lab can also offers transportation and packaging testing for lithium metal and lithium-ion batteries. The new lab's range of services include electrical testing, mechanical testing, environmental simulation testing and fire exposure testing. These new services enhance the range of services offered through CSA’s new European HQ, the company said.

Dieter Fröhlich, managing director at CSA Group Bayern GmbH, said: “As batteries and battery-powered tools increase in popularity across Europe and the world, the demand for testing to help ensure both the safety and performance of these products has increased.

Our capabilities and services are focused on mitigating many of the challenges faced with testing and certifying batteries and battery-powered tools destined for European, North American, and global markets.”

The new lab is accredited by the US-American Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Standards Council of Canada (SCC), Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS) and International Commission on the Rules for the Approval of Electrical Equipment (IECEE).

With its IECEE accreditation CSA Group can also serve global certification schemes like the Certification Body (CB) scheme. While CSA Group can offer testing according to IEC 62133-2:2017, UL 1642, UL 2054, UN38.3 and IEC/CSA/UL 62841-1 Annex K, the company said.
