CES 2023 'will focus on tech to solve global insecurity'

Next year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will focus on tech innovations that can help address human insecurity in the face of global conflicts and climate change, organizers said.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the organization that puts on CES in Las Vegas, said it is partnering with the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) “to showcase the critical role of technology in support of the United Nations efforts to advance human security for all.”

CTA said that ‘Human Security for All’ will be a theme throughout the show, with the conference programming and keynotes “highlighting innovation and products improving the lives of people around the world.”

Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the CTA, said: "Now more than ever, people are looking to the tech industry for leadership as we develop creative solutions to the world's greatest challenges."

The concept of human security was first introduced by the UN in 1994. Tied to the concept is a list of security pillars required for an individual's personal well-being, including: food, access to health care, personal income, environmental protection, personal safety, community security and political freedom.

"The Covid-19 pandemic, global warming, the high cost of education and the surging food shortages resulting from the war in Ukraine illustrate the importance of developing innovative solutions to the full range of human security issues." said Garry Jacobs, president of WAAS.

CES 2023 will take place in Las Vegas on January 5-8, 2023.
