Apple launches European self-repair program

Apple has finally launched its self-repair program in Europe and the UK, following the launch of a similar service in the US.

The service provides tools and instruction manuals for Apple users to repair their own devices, including iPhones and the most recent models of MacBooks. The devices covered by the self-repair program are iPhone SE (3rd gen), iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, as well as M1 Macbooks built in 2020 and 2021.

Users wanting to take advantage of the program can order parts and tools from the official Apple Self Service Repair Store online. The Self Service Repair Store provides access to more than 200 individual parts and tools, as well as repair manuals. The service also allows device owners to return faulty parts for recycling, in return receiving credit from Apple.

“But when a repair is needed, we want customers to have many options for safe, reliable, and secure repair,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “That’s why we’re excited to launch Self Service Repair in Europe, giving our customers direct access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and manuals.”

The service will be available for Apple customers in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.

Apple are not the only tech company offering self-repair programs. Samsung and Google have launched similar services in the last year, partly in response to growing pressure from activists and governments to make electronics more repairable.
