Ametek buys two test equipment makers in $430M deal

Test equipment maker Ametek has announced the acquisition of two other North American testing providers in a deal worth $430 million.

Ametek has bought New York state-based Navitar and Canadian firm RTDS Technologies, with the two acquisitions likely to add approximately $100 million in annual sales, said Ametek.

"We are excited to welcome the Navitar and RTDS teams to Ametek," said David A. Zapico, Ametek chair and CEO. "These businesses nicely complement our existing capabilities and strategically expand our presence in highly attractive secular growth areas."

Both companies will become part of Ametek’s Electronic Instruments Group (EIG), which provides advanced analytical, monitoring, testing, calibrating and display instrumentation.

Headquartered in Rochester, New York, Navitar produces advanced optical components and solutions for high precision applications.

The company manufactures optical imaging systems, cameras, components and software for product testing in a number of different industries.

Meanwhile, RTDS Technologies, which is based in Winnipeg, Canada, provides real-time power simulation systems used by utilities, and research and educational institutions in the development and testing of the electric power grid and renewable energy applications.
