All new LG TVs to feature OLED.EX tech

LG Display, the display arm of LG Electronics, has confirmed that all new LG OLED displays will feature the company’s more efficient OLED.EX technology.

According to TechRadar, LG Display confirmed in a statement that during the second quarter 2022 it had transitioned all new displays to the technology, which it claims offers up to 30 percent higher brightness than regular OLED displays.

The announcement came as the company was awarded a technology award for its large-sized OLED.EX TV panels at an awards event hosted by leading Japanese sound-video media outlet HiVi.

The company’s EX technology was the culmination of over 10 years of research and involves the use of deuterium, a hydrogen isotope also known as ‘heavy water.’

For the EX technology deuterium is used in place of hydrogen in the OLED displays, enabling an increase in brightness. The technology also uses new algorithms to stabilize the OLED pixels to more precisely represent natural colors and achieve perfect black levels.

LG, who provide display tech for companies including Hisense, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, and Vizio, unveiled its OLED.EX technology last December. Many industry analysts see the technology as a response to Samsung’s QLED technology which was brought out around the same time.
